Network Design Specialist

Location: North York
To design, troubleshoot and analyze communication networks for communication based train control (CBTC) systems that meet customer, system and industry requirements for throughput and security. To manage and lead one or several concurrent deliveries of the communication network design with a matrix organization, being responsible for the overall work package delivery.
Skills & Experience
• 5 years of experience in communication network design, deployment and maintenance (Radio system, wired, IT);
• Strong knowledge of system design lifecycle (V-cycle) and process.
• Excellent understanding and knowledge of communication network concepts, principles and design framework. Industry certification is desirable;
• Wired networking:
• Understanding of physical layer technologies;
• Excellent knowledge and experience in design, operation and troubleshooting of layer-2 and layer-3 Ethernet and IP technologies;
• Understanding and experience in network security technologies and design;
• Wireless networking:
• Strong theoretical knowledge of radio system communication (e.g. modulation, multiplexing, channel and signal propagation modelling, signal detection and processing, etc.);
• Excellent knowledge and experience in design, operation and troubleshooting of radio-based systems; in particular, mobile IEEE 802.11 system.;
• IT design and deployment:
• Understanding of common IT technologies;
• Experience in configuration, deployment and maintenance of IT components (servers, workstations, LAN, etc.);
• Advanced knowledge of software technologies (Windows-, Unix-based operating systems, MS SQL Server, Active Directory, etc.);
• Excellent understanding and experience in network analysis and tools (performance, reliability, scalability and other factors);
• Advanced knowledge and experience in the use of common software tools (MS Office, Visio, etc.)
• Good scripting knowledge (e.g. Python, .NET, C#,
Bachelor’s degree in Radio, Network, Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent; Master’s degree is preferred
P.Eng certification or equivalent is desirable
