Substation Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a Senior Engineer, Electrical Studies to join their Mississauga office. The selected candidate will plan, direct and deliver power systems studies projects as stand-alone assignments or as part of multi-disciplinary projects. Will mentor juniors, develop a studies team, liaise with remote colleagues to share knowledge and ensure deliverables meet our high expectations. Will also assist the sales and marketing team to develop CIMA’s studies portfolio. Projects will be of various size and nature in the generation, transmission or distribution fields throughout Canada.
• Define the scope and budget for power system studies
• Direct and mentor junior engineers and technologists
• Provide input on technical specifications for power equipment (transformer, breakers, etc.)
• Perform / review Power systems studies in steady state mode such as short-circuit, load flow, coordination, arc flash, or harmonics studies
• Produce / review protective relay program according to protection philosophy and power systems studies
• Perform / review electrical project feasibility studies
• Equipment selection and single line protection and metering drawings
• Supervise / perform relay testing including relay injection
• Planning, scheduling and estimating (Engineering and Construction)
• Engineering coordination with other disciplines
• Perform regular documented reviews, maintain monthly progress report, and issue updates accordingly
• Assist business development team in sales and marketing efforts
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• Minimum of 10 years of experience working with electrical power projects
• Member of the PEO, in good standing
• Experience in engineering consulting or work with a major utility
• Extensive experience in power system studies
• Knowledge of intelligent protective relays and manufacturers
• Experience with the IEC 61850 communication standard
• Experience with SCADA and telecontrol technologies is an advantage
• Knowledge of telecom protocol and requirement is an advantage
• Experience with of AutoCAD or Microstation
• Excellent leadership, positive attitude and communication skills
• Ability to work with remote employees
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional time-management skills and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks quickly
• Excellent decision-making skills and is open minded to alternative solutions
• Capable of supervising and mentoring junior staff, including overseeing their deliverables
• Maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and other employees
• Hold a valid driver’s license
• Experience with transient studies an asset
• Bilingual (French) an asset
